Commissioner's Award

The Commissioner's Award program (formerly the Hard Corps Award) recognizes the hard work of students who volunteer 50+ hours during the school year. There is a $10 processing fee for the Commissioner's Award. 

Many Mayor’s Award and Commissioner's Award winners are eligible for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. 

NO STUDENT WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR INABILITY TO PAY. The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center believes strongly in supporting student volunteers.

Award Eligibility

 

  • Youth ages 12-18 may apply.

  • Awards are issued for hours served between the first day and last day of the school year.  50 or more total volunteer hours must be completed during this time frame.

  • Volunteer hours you complete before your registration do count as long as the hours you served were during your 2015-16 academic year.

  • Hours MUST be completed at a Triangle nonprofit that is registered with the TNVLC. Click Here to see if an organization is registered with us.  If the nonprofit is not registered with us, they must register by August 1.

  • Awards are issued for volunteer service only. No payment of any kind can be received from the organization served.

  • Court-ordered community service does not count towards your total hours volunteered for the award. 

Included in the Award
 

  • A personalized Commissioner's Award certificate of achievement presented by community officials.

  • .An invitation to the Tomorrow's Community Leaders Award Ceremony hosted by the TNVLC and the Mayor of Durham

 
Award Application Process
  
REGISTRATION OPENS OCTOBER 1ST.  Register for one or more of our Youth Service Awards by filling out the online form below.  After registering, download and print the application packet.  Send in your payment, permission form, timesheet(s) and evaluation(s) to the TNVLC by July 15.
