Who We Are

The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) mobilizes volunteers and supports nonprofits, operating the largest volunteer database in the Triangle. The Digital Navigator Program will support older adults in the community. The program aims to bridge the gap in achieving digital equity, reduce social isolation, and improve access to healthcare and electronic information.

Student volunteers or digital navigators provide technological assistance to older adult members of the community. In this role, they guide older adults on the use of essential online resources (i.e. email, social media, video communication, telehealth) and teach them how to identify and prevent online scams. The digital navigator also assists with mobile phone or smartphone use.

What We Do

In 2021, The Triangle Nonprofit and Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) and the Duke University Bass Connections Help Desk team collaborated to create a Digital Navigator program. The program was created to improve digital literacy among older adults in the Durham community. TNVLC is collaborating with several local area nonprofits to continue supporting older adults in the community.
