Who We Are

Believing in the potential of all children, LEAP empowers Latino and other children in Durham to achieve academic success by providing a high-quality preschool and on-going support through middle school.  LEAP began as a volunteer effort among three Episcopal congregations; it became an independent nonprofit organization in 2013. We are a community of people dedicated to guiding Durham children towards bright, fulfilling lives.

What We Do

LEAP operates Durham's first and only dual-language preK programs, and serves over fifty young children at our two sites: Nuestra Escuelita (located at St. Luke's Church) and the EDCI/LEAP Academy (located on Harvard Avenue in the EDCI Zone).  We also run a tutoring program for older children (K-8) who are striving to improve their reading skills. Our work is informed by the lasted research on effective practices for teaching children who learning a second language and/or need individualized literacy instruction.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at LEAP, either in the preK program or as a tutor, please visit the LEAP website where applications are available.  www.durhamleap.org
