Who We Are

The West End Community Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that was created to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the City of Durham, particularly for the residents of the West End (Southwest Central Durham).

The West End Community Foundation, Inc. (WECF) seeks to revitalize the West End community of Durham, North Carolina through education, health care, and human enrichment.

What We Do

Central to our mission to address the educational and human enrichment needs of the community is the management and operation of the Community Family Life and Recreation Center at Lyon Park. The Community Family Life and Recreation Center at Lyon Park has been in operation since 2002. It houses an auditorium space, computer labs, a game room, dance studio, multipurpose meeting spaces, a full-size gymnasium with a suspended walking track, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, and a clinic. WECF, Inc. is privileged to serve citizens by creating and developing the programs and services that meet their needs.

We have served collaboratively to achieve our mission with several community partners that rent office space at the center. Some of those partners include the City of Durham (DPR), Durham Head Start, Durham Social Services, Kidznotes, Coalition for Peace with Justice, Sweeties Southern and Vegan Catering, Durham Technical Community College, and Duke Health. With assistance from these organizations, we have been able to provide services for over 3,000 people per month through programs that include an Adult Basic Education preparation class, a six-day a week tutorial program, early childhood development services, five-day a week senior citizen programming, summer programming for youth, and general healthcare services.
