Volunteer: Reassurance Call Advocate

Position Title: Reassurance Call Advocate (Volunteer) 

Position Summary 

The HopeLine Reassurance Program provides supportive telephone calls to individuals experiencing loneliness, isolation, and other life circumstances that may impact their emotional well-being. Reassurance Call Advocates serve as compassionate volunteers who provide consistent social connection, emotional support, wellness monitoring, and resource referrals while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries,  

Reassurance Call Advocates build meaningful connections with callers through active listening, empathy, and other skill-based techniques. Volunteers help reduce social isolation by offering caring conversations and identifying concerns that may require additional support or intervention. While advocates do not provide counseling or therapy, they play an important role in promoting emotional wellness and connecting callers to appropriate resources when needed. 

Location 

This is a remote training and volunteer opportunity. Volunteers must have access to a quiet, private workspace with a closed door to ensure confidentiality while taking calls. 

Volunteers must also have: 

Access to a personal computer or laptop 

Reliable internet service 

The ability to learn and navigate online platforms and technology 

The ability to use online platforms to document interactions and complete volunteer responsibilities 

Availability to complete scheduled 3-hour Reassurance Call shifts remotely 

This role requires a professional home-based work environment that supports confidential conversations and uninterrupted client engagement. 

Training Requirements 

All volunteers must successfully complete the HopeLine Reassurance Program Training prior to serving independently. 

The training consists of: 

18 hours of virtual classroom training conducted via Zoom 

6-hour supervised mentorship/internship experience  

Interactive discussions, role-plays, skills practice, and feedback sessions 

Primary Responsibilities 

Make scheduled reassurance calls to assigned participants. 

Provide compassionate emotional support through active listening and empathetic communication. 

Foster meaningful social connections that reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. 

Conduct wellness checks according to program procedures. 

Encourage caller independence, dignity, and self-determination.
