Volunteer: RSVP PEAS Delivery Volunteer

The “PEAS (Providing Elders Additional Sustenance) Project” is a weekly prepared meal distribution initiative offered to help meet the nutritional needs of older adults. 

Deliver meals to homebound older adults who may be living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or other conditions that make daily tasks challenging   Commit to weekly Friday deliveries; each volunteer will be assigned a consistent list of clients   Deliveries can be grouped by location (e.g., Northern DurhamSouthern Durham) to best suit your comfort and availability.  Maintain confidentiality and treat all participants with respect and compassion during each delivery. 

Requirements: 

Must present a valid driver’s license or photo ID at the time of volunteering.  Must have reliable transportation to complete deliveries.  Must sign a liability acknowledgment form, noting that DCSL is not responsible for any accidents, vehicle damages, or incidents that may occur during deliveries.  Commitment to punctuality, safety, and courteous communication.

The Durham Center for Senior Life is in search of a volunteer to help out at the reception desk. This volunteer will be stationed at our reception and/or welcome desk to welcome participants to our center, direct them to programming, and answer phones to take messages during our evening hours from 5-7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will provide a tour and training so volunteers can be comfortable and confident when working with members.

Role Summary
We are seeking a friendly, reliable volunteer to support the Durham Center for Senior Life’s
Development team by capturing event photos, helping collect member testimonials, and
organizing digital image files. This role helps us preserve stories, celebrate our members, and
share the impact of our work with the wider community.


Key Responsibilities
● Take clear, well-lit photos of members, staff, and activities, using basic photography best
practices
● Capture short, simple member testimonials using provided questions (photo and/or short
video clips)
● Upload and organize photo and video files into folders by event and date
- Compare event dates with file dates and label folders/files accordingly

Requirements
● Basic understanding of lighting and composition
(for example: positioning subjects facing light, avoiding strong backlighting, encouraging
natural smiles)
● Comfortable interacting with older adults and giving light direction for photos
● Comfortable using computers and organizing digital files and folders
● Available to attend pre-scheduled events with advance notice

Time Commitment
Flexible, event-based schedule with advance notice whenever possible.
