I started Time-In Moms because I know how heavy motherhood can feel without support. Sometimes all it takes is a meal, childcare, or a bit of help at home to catch your breath. That’s what we give moms — 90 minutes of no-cost time, care, and the reminder they’re not alone — protecting their mental health, strengthening families, and building stronger communities.As we grow, we’re creating a small Advisory Board of 5–7 leaders and thought partners. We’re looking for people from many different backgrounds — educators, parents, mental health professionals, philanthropy and nonprofit leaders, and others who bring heart, lived experience, or expertise to help us grow. Most members will come from the Raleigh-Durham area, where our work is rooted, and we’ll also welcome 1–2 national partners to bring a broader perspective.This isn’t about titles. Our Student Ambassadors are a critical link in helping our organization get PORCH neighborhoods started in their home or college towns. Their role is to help bring awareness of food insecurity to the local community, mobilize local food drives, and identify potential neighborhood coordinators to help create a sustainable hunger relief program. The program is open to all high school or college students who are passionate about fighting hunger.

PORCH provides students with the knowledge, tools, and support needed - from food insecurity education, to how-to playbooks, to marketing materials, to a program advisor - to help ensure success.

Volunteer Opportunity: Help Represent Our Community Radio Station at the River Park Sustainer Event! Join us for a fun and meaningful day supporting local arts, music, and community connection! Our station will have a table at the River Park Sustainer Event, and we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with outreach and community engagement. What You’ll Do: Chat with event-goers about our radio station and its mission Share information on how to get involved as listeners, volunteers, or members Help distribute flyers and promotional materials Represent the spirit of independent, community-driven radio!

As a new non-profit supporting moms we need your help to spread the word to our community. We want moms everywhere in the Triangle area to know that we are here to support them with light cleaning, meal support and child care at no cost because moms deserve a break and a helping hand. 

Calls will go out to moms, businesses, daycares, churches, etc. We want them to know that we are here as a resource. This will be a week of outreach starting from November 1st to November 8th from 8:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. As a volunteer you can make calls whenever you are free. 

We will provide you a call log, call script and note taker tool.

Little WORLD Charity is a ten year old, 100% volunteer small group with a huge impact in the North Carolina Triangle area. Our animated displays, year round in 21 children's hospitals, clinics, and libraries, create 500,000 smiles (button presses) a year to kids in need of some joy. 

We are also running a huge, free model train show in December, 2025 and we need lots of volunteers for various roles (no skill required). These range from some muscle to setting up and taking down the train tables, decorators for the layout areas, and people helping to run the various trains. All of this is fun, relaxed easy volunteering where you will see lots of smiling faces.

Due to the large number of dates and shifts and different locations, we've organized the signup method for you in the google sheet in the link below. There are three tabs in the file, one for the Raleigh train show, one for the Durham train show, and one for setting up and taking down the decorations, trains, and tables and storing them.

At Soltys Place, we believe that every day can be joyful and engaging for older adults. We’re looking for passionate volunteers to help bring enriching activities to adults experiencing cognitive or physical changes.

Opportunities include:

Comical Storyteller – Share humor and lighthearted stories to spark smiles and laughter

Horticulturist/Gardener – Lead hands-on gardening projects or teach plant care

Zumba Instructor – Get participants moving with fun, accessible dance routines

Do you have a passion for history and sharing information with visitors? Join us as a tour guide for one of North Carolina's most historic towns!

Tours operate each Saturday March-October with additional opportunities for private tours and specialty tours. Tour guides can generally expect to host 1-2 tours a month. All materials provided!

We are looking for personable and outgoing volunteers to help man our desk and greet visitors at the Hillsborough Visitor Center. Volunteers will come in weekly (or bi-weekly) for a 3 hour shift. We provide on-site training to teach you about our resources! 

Currently available shifts include alternate Thursday mornings and weekly Thursday afternoons. 

Additional project opportunities also available including historical research and on-site projects!

The Durham Cooperative Extension’s Juntos Program is seeking in-person tutors to support students at Southern High School in Durham.

We are looking for volunteers to help us prepare for our biggest event of the year! On Tuesdays, from 5:30 to 8:30pm, come to Liberty Arts to participate in Iron Breaking.

Liberty Arts' 9th Annual Iron Pour is coming up on November 15th, 2025. In order to run an Iron Pour, our organization needs dozens of buckets of chip-sized pieces of iron. We receive larger pieces of iron through donations (radiators, bathtubs, etc) and these need to be broken down into small pieces. These small pieces of iron will be melted to create metal sculptures during our 9th Annual Iron Pour.

This volunteer opportunity is a physical activity. You'll be smashing metal scrap using hammers! We provide safety gear (glasses, face shields, and shoe coverings), but ask that you wear thicker clothing like denim, and closed-toe shoes/boots. 

This opportunity is a great stress reliever. Take out some of your frustrations and support the arts all at once! 

We are seeking an individual to assist us with our CRM Little Green Light for donor data. Ideally this would be a few hours to assist us with utilizing the platform in the most effective way.

On Sunday, October 19th, from 1-5pm, the NC Down Syndrome Alliance is hosting our largest event and fundraiser of the year at Sugg Farm in Holly Springs. Roughly 2,000 people attend the annual NCDSA Buddy Walk Celebration, often as a "family reunion" for NCDSA families. There is something for everyone: tent gating, picnicking, food, activities for all ages, resource information, and more!

Our Compost Kitchen diverts thousands of pounds of food waste to create rich, nutrient dense compost for the Camden Street Learning Garden and its neighbors. Flip compost with us to help us close the loop of sustainability and nutrient-dense transform kitchen scraps back into food for our soil! No experience is necessary. Working Conditions

Dress Code: Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. We also recommend bringing a sun hat to combat the heat and sun rays!

Items to Bring: Please do not forget to bring a water bottle! We will supply gloves and all other necessary garden equipment, but feel free to bring your gloves if you have them

Allergies: Please bring any allergy medications for ants, bees, plants, etc. There are active bee colonies and red ants in the garden, and we ask volunteers to bring any appropriate medication such as an EpiPen.

The Climate Impact on Lung Cancer via Exposure to Radon (CLOVER) Study is a statewide research project led by Duke University that examines how radon exposure and climate change impact lung cancer outcomes across North Carolina. The study includes two parts for participants: completing a brief survey and using a free radon test kit to measure radon levels in their home.

We are seeking volunteers from across the state to help connect community members with the CLOVER Study. Volunteers will play a vital role in sharing study information, encouraging participation, and helping distribute free radon test kits to residents.

What You’ll Do:

Share CLOVER Study materials in your community (flyers, brochures, or social media posts).

Connect with local organizations, churches, and community groups to spread awareness. Assist participants with completing the survey and radon test for full participation.

No research experience is needed—just an interest in public health and a willingness to engage your community. All training, materials, and ongoing support will be provided. By volunteering, you’ll help advance lung cancer prevention and environmental health research while protecting communities from harmful radon exposure.

A VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteer helps low- to moderate-income individuals and families—often including seniors, people with disabilities, and those with limited English proficiency—prepare and file their federal and state income tax returns for free.

Here’s a breakdown of role options:

1. Tax Preparation and Filing

Use IRS-provided software to prepare accurate returns.

Ensure all eligible credits and deductions (like Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit) are claimed.

E-file returns securely for clients.

2. Client Assistance and Education

Interview taxpayers to gather necessary information and documents.

Explain the return to the client in plain language before filing.

Answer basic tax questions and provide general financial literacy tips.

3. Compliance and Confidentiality

Follow IRS standards of conduct and maintain strict confidentiality with client information.

Complete required IRS training and certification each tax season.

4. Team Collaboration

Work with other volunteers, site coordinators, and quality reviewers to ensure returns are correct.

Refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.

5. Optional Specializations

Some VITA volunteers focus on appointment setting, intake, translation, greeter duties, or quality review instead of tax prep itself.

The Nonprofit Training Program Coordinator/Manager helps to leads the delivery of The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) training programs. This includes the ongoing monthly training programs as well as the Service Enterprise program and other training opportunities.

DCRC is seeking thoughtful and empowering volunteers to join our team providing services to victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking who come to the office for legal or crisis services. This volunteer is the "Director of First Impressions" and welcomes survivors in, creating a sense of safety and peace when they come through the door or call the administrative line. Volunteers will also help in the office complete light administrative duties such as: Organizing supplies, creating volunteer notebooks, creating folders, etc.

You will receive 10 hours of training prior to starting independent shifts. No volunteer is put to work until they are confident and comfortable.

We need people, one or two days a year, to help rotate our displays across the Triangle.  You would drive to our director's home in North Durham and then spend several hours riding in his van, helping him remove and install display cases that the children love to activate with the press of a button.  Your volunteering, even for a day, helps our frugal charity save money in not having to pay a contractor to help us.   

Most of the time is spent being a passenger, just chatting.  The work is not overly strenuous does require the ability to lift around 30 pounds for about 10 seconds. And you'll get to see lots of children enjoying the displays.

Purpose: Guide and supervise students working in the wood shop and provide assistance on their projects. Model appropriate social behavior and shop safety.

Expectations and Responsibilities: Play an active role in the development of each student’s social and woodworking skills. Provide opportunities for the students to grow by doing things such as suggesting a new type of project to work on. Maintain a safe and clean environment in the shop. General tool maintenance as needed. Supply inventory as needed

Skills and Qualifications: Comfortable working with students in grades 3-12. Willing to, over time, become familiar with the many introductory projects we have our new students work on so that you may assist with all steps of production.

Requirements: Must be 21 years of age or older and consent to a background check.

Training: Complete training plan as outlined in the volunteer training checklist: Stop The Bleed, module training, orientation, and shadowing. Participate in mandatory ongoing training offered by the BCW. Participate in recommended ongoing training offered by the BCW as able.

Time Requirement: Two-hour blocks (4-6pm M-F; 1-3 M, T, Th), Preferably 1-3 days a week during our after school program, depending on availability.

Reporting Requirement: Regularly discuss ideas, suggestions, or concerns you have for the program.

The Bull City Woodshop is piloting a program where people from the community can come into the shop and use the tools and space for their personal projects. We are working to create staffed hours where open shop members can receive supervision and support while on the tools. The volunteer's responsibility for this time would be to: Be present at their open shop hours shift, be available to address general safety/usability concerns for open shop members, report any incidents or tool maintenance needs, and ensure that members have cleaned up before leaving the shop.

Purpose: Represent the Bull City Woodshop at events such as volunteer fairs and community events

Expectations and Responsibilities: Set-up, tear-down and/or tend the BCW booth at assigned events. Accurately and enthusiastically communicate the work we do and explain how others may get involved. Transport supplies to and from the event as you're able. Shifts can include set-up, tend the booth (no physical labor required), or tear-down the supplies at each event.

Skills and Qualifications: Strong knowledge of the mission of the Bull City Woodshop, the work that we do, and an enthusiasm for communicating it to others.

Requirements: Familiarity with our program and services we provide. If helping with set-up and tear-down, ability to lift 20 lbs. Helpful, but not required is a vehicle to help transport supplies to events.

Training: Brief review of materials used including our information binder, table decorations, forms, and brochures. Review of shop tools and projects so that you may respond to questions. Understanding of possible hands-on activities the BCW provides at these events.

Time Requirement: 2-4 hours per event; 6-12 events per year depending on availability.

Reporting Requirement: Report to the Community Outreach Director about attendance of the event, success of the activity (if performed), and any improvements that could be made at the next event. Submit sign-up sheet to the Community Outreach Director.

Connecting with Threads is sponsoring a Learn to Sew series for youth at the Southwest Durham Library. We are looking for teaching assistants to help us. You should enjoy working with children but we can teach you all you need to know about sewing for this simple curriculum.

The series will be held on the following dates: 9/27, 10/25, 11/8, 11/29 and 12/6. The series will be offered again after the holidays as well.

All volunteers must have a background check.

Connecting with Threads will be teaching sewing lessons twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6pm) to youth grades K-5.  We are looking for volunteers to help us staff the program -- if you don't know how to sew, we will teach you what you need to know!

The projects we will be teaching are simple and the students will progress through the curriculum at their own pace with our support.  We will be teaching them both sewing by machine as well as hand sewing.

The students will be making projects for themselves to keep as well as items to be donated to their elementary school.

This program is part of a broader after school program providing underpriveledged youth access to additional educational opportunities aimed at improving their scholastic abilities.

Muddy Sneakers Outdoor Classroom is a nonprofit environmental education organization serving school students across North Carolina. Through a curriculum aligned with the NC Essential Science Standards, we take students out of the classroom and into nature—transforming nearby public lands into living classrooms. Since our founding in 2007, we’ve introduced tens of thousands of students to hands-on science learning rooted in the local ecosystems they call home. In the 2025–2026 school year, we will serve more than 4,000 students across half the state—from the Mountains to the Piedmont and beyond. 

As we expand our programs from the 50 counties we serve toward the Coastal Plains, we seek new Board Members in the Triangle region to support our continued growth. We welcome individuals passionate about environmental education, schools, and connecting youth to the natural world.

These volunteers help us manage the Fresh Produce Program's distribution of free food items to members of the community who arrive at Uncle Harry's General Store (1925 Yearby Ave, Durham) during our Saturday distribution days as walk-ups. This includes 1) table set up, 2) management of our “take-a-number system” to facilitate food distribution on a first-come, first-served basis, 3) sharing handouts with local food bank information and information about the walk-up table process that folks may share with other members of the community, and 4) re-packing table contents for storage. Spanish proficiency is highly recommended.

These volunteers support the Fresh Produce Program by assisting our distribution leaders with quality-controlling produce items, packing produce into bags, and loading bags into delivery drivers' cars on Saturday distribution days between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

This volunteer will support the Fresh Produce Program by picking up food scraps at the end of Saturday's distribution (between 10-10:30am) and bringing it to the Duke Gardens for composting – about a 1-hour commitment.

The driver should have a vehicle with capacity to fit the week's compost – approximately three 27-gallon bins and/or trash bags with additional compost. A tarp will be provided to keep your vehicle clean and a cart is available to assist with transporting the compost once at the gardens. After transport, the bins, tarp, and cart  will be returned. 

We highly encourage volunteers in this role to be physically able and/or to bring a friend along, as the compost bins can be heavy (~25-70 lbs each). Volunteers have the assistance of a script and FAQ document to successfully complete calls. These volunteers support the Fresh Produce Program by picking up food bags from Uncle Harry's General Store (1925 Yearby Ave, Durham) at a time of their choosing on Saturdays between 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM, and delivering these items to participants' homes. 

Delivery driving is up to 2 hour commitment (e.g. someone who picks up at 9:00 AM should plan for finishing by 11:00 AM, a 10:45 AM pickup finishing by 12:45 PM at the latest). We routinely need 15-20 drivers since we serve ~170 households a week. The more people who sign up, the quicker the routes are for everyone!

Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) is the only organization authorized by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Defense to visit any prisoner in the Federal and Military prison systems. The primary focus is on seeing those prisoners with an acute need for human contact -- those prisoners without regular visits, those serving long sentences who are far from home, those in solitary confinement and on death row, and those who are frequently transferred from prison to prison. PVS visitors let the prisoners set the agenda for what they discuss.

This listing is for volunteers that are interested in visiting at FCC Butner in Butner, North Carolina. The Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) is comprised of 5 separate facilities with a total population of over 4,700 prisoners.

Instructors will teach 2nd grade Durham School students basic water safety and swimming skills. Each 2nd grade student has 8 lessons over a 2-week period. Instructors are given a detailed handbook and go through a training session. Laminated teaching aids are available poolside during the lessons. Instructor requirements are the ability to do a front to back float, a basic (elementary) backstroke, front crawl (freestyle) stroke, and tread water. Instructors should have a desire to teach elementary school children, be patient and kind. Instructors will need to complete a free online Durham Public Schools background check. This is a very rewarding experience for both the 2nd grade students and the instructors.

Covid-19 brought to light the heartbreaking extent of food insecurity in our community. Iglesia Emanuel, together with a large group of dedicated volunteers, has responded to this challenge with a weekly food pantry, providing large boxes and bags of nutritious and culturally appropriate food. Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, making it possible for us to serve over 600 families a week. Students aged 14 and up are welcome to volunteer on their own. Children aged 10 and up are welcome to volunteer under the supervision of a parent or other accompanying adult. Volunteers need to be over 18 for traffic control positions.

In addition to volunteering on site, you can help support this ministry by donating shelf stable food or bags of rice and beans. We always need more protein items (canned chicken, tuna, or peanut butter), cereal, and other nutritious food to complement the fresh produce that we give.
