Take our handy dandy cleaning cart and make the stores sparkle! This cart comes with a checklist that includes all the possible cleaning tasks for each store along with a duster, wet wipes, and several cleaning products. Great for folks who like a clean space and have attention to detail! This shift also includes picking up trash from the yard and lot, tidying the front bed and entrance area, and making sure we look good on the outside as well as the inside!

Clothes + Accessories Processing

This shift involves fixing clothes around the store, collecting hangers, tidying the floor, and processing clothes and accessories donations.

Frames + Housewares Processing

This shift involves processing our picture frames and housewares in our Thrift Store. Housewares includes kitchen items, decor, linens, and more.

For detail-oriented folks who love sorting, organizing, and supporting some of the grittier aspects of our mission of reuse! This shift involves sorting through bags we have accumulated over the week, and separating them into different usable and unusable categories. Additionally, you will break down cardboard boxes for recycling.

This involves organizing binders, sorting paper and other items, and placing and pricing supplies.

This shift involves sorting the barrel items and preloved materials we receive in bulk, such as pill bottles, medals, egg cartons, and more. This shift involves blue barrel section maintenance, packaging bulk items, and sorting items by color and size.

This shift involves processing our hardware donations such as tools, paint, nails and screws, garden items, and more. It also involves culling and organizing our tile and wood section.

Join us for a special service day On Sunday December 14th from 1-3 p.m. supporting a Raleigh mom and her four children this holiday season. This is a meaningful opportunity to show up for a mom doing it all on her own and help bring warmth, care, and holiday spirit into her home.

During this event, volunteers can choose to help with cleaning, preparing a holiday meal, or childcare—all core services of Time-In Moms. You don’t have to do all three; simply select the area where you feel most comfortable serving.

We’re seeking reliable volunteers who can commit to two hours and help make this home feel supported, cared for, and truly special. Your presence will make a real difference for this family.

Time-In Moms is a growing nonprofit serving moms in the Triangle by providing essential support—light cleaning, child care support, and meal support—so families can breathe, reset, and thrive. We launched in August 2025 and operate primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. Every act of service strengthens families, supports kids, and helps our community flourish.

We are seeking a Volunteer Event Planner to help bring our mission to life through meaningful, organized, and community-building events. This role will support both service day events for moms and community engagement events that help us recruit volunteers, raise awareness, and strengthen partnerships.

Assist with organizing fundraising events, and service day events

We are seeking a volunteer for social media posts created in canva to promote our mission supporting women with cancer.  Ideally, this would include 1-2 posts a week highlighting our mission. 

The Nonprofit Training Program Coordinator/Manager helps to leads the delivery of The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) training programs. This includes the ongoing monthly training programs as well as the Service Enterprise program and other training opportunities.

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support our Fall 2025 Reindeer Romp event through a variety of fun and meaningful roles. Opportunities include cheering on participants at Cheer Stations, helping with colorful makeovers at Happy Hair, selling items at the Merchandise table, handing out water at Water Stations, and running alongside girls as Finishing Fairies or Community Running Buddies. Volunteers are also needed to assist with Packet Pickup, Race Day Registration, Set-Up, and to answer questions at GOTR Central or as Ask Me guides. We need someone experienced in website design that could look it over, fix any problems and make recommendations on improvements. What can be done that the website comes up in Google searches more readily? How can we promote ourselves better - at little cost?

DCRC is seeking thoughtful and empowering volunteers to join our team providing services to victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking who come to the office for legal or crisis services. This volunteer is the "Director of First Impressions" and welcomes survivors in, creating a sense of safety and peace when they come through the door or call the administrative line. Volunteers will also help in the office complete light administrative duties such as: Organizing supplies, creating volunteer notebooks, creating folders, etc.

You will receive 10 hours of training prior to starting independent shifts. No volunteer is put to work until they are confident and comfortable.

JA Inspire presented by Delta Air Lines is a career expo unlike any other. Think of this event as a trade show for careers. Instead of testing new products, students will test out tasks and problem-solving activities from a variety of jobs across six career clusters.

We need volunteers to help guide and assist more than 900 WCPSS students through the expo hall. We will provide advance training and support for all volunteers. Lunch is also provided, thanks to our sponsors. 

Volunteer Opportunities

·         First Shift – 7:30-11:00 am

Volunteer Roles

·         Bus Greeters - meet buses and direct student groups to their "navigator"

·         Navigators - remain with the same group of students throughout the event

·         Welcome Crew - meet students as they enter the building and direct them to their first set of career stations

·         "Ask Me” Crew - act as a resource for students and educators

·         Safety Monitors - supervise key entrance/exit areas to ensure students remain engaged in the event activities, contact and direct attendees to a JA staff member in case of an emergency 

·         Runners - provide extra support to JA staff, fill in for other volunteer roles as needed

Our kitchen volunteers wipe down countertops, tables, organize supplies, put out snacks, and keep our kitchens neat and tidy for the guests that come to our facility. Shifts can vary according to the volunteer's schedule.

Our pantry volunteers take our food donations and organize them by expiration date in our pantry. They keep the pantry neat and organized so that our guests can find everything they need. Our pantry volunteers also put out 'grab and go" snacks for our guests so they can enjoy a treat as they return from the hospital.

Get a group of friends together to assemble Grab and Go Bags for our guests living at Family House.  You can customize the bags with fun messages and include your favorite non-perishable snacks, beverages and/or game books.  All of these items ease the burden of a patient or family member spending hours at UNC hospitals and can save them money since food items can be expensive at the hospital.  

You can drop these items off at Family House at any time of the day.  Our team will distribute them to guests and make sure our guests are well taken care of.

Join us as a Front Desk Volunteer at SECU Family House in Chapel Hill.  We are seeking individuals with moderate computer skills and excellent phone etiquette to serve as the welcome face of our house.  Candidates must commit to at least six months of once-a-week volunteering (a 2-3 hours shift), either on weekday evenings from 6-8pm or on weekends.  Don't worry if you are new to this role, training will be provided to make sure you feel comfortable.  Join the front desk team; the most popular volunteer opportunity in the house:).  Great swag, snacks and friendships included!!

Join Welcome Baby and share gifts of warmth with Durham families. Welcome Baby is seeking a regular volunteer to assist with our Winter Coat Distribution. Volunteers will assist in pulling coats of appropriate size, gender and restocking as needed.

Every Friday from 9am-1pm (can be somewhat flexible on times) The opportunity will run through the end of February (depending on Punxsutawney Phil).

Feeling brave? Volunteer at the Museum of Life and Science for our BooFest Event! Help Museum staff run monstrous science explorations, creepy crafts, themed enrichment, and encounters. This included-with-admission event runs on October 25, 26, and 31, with shifts from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm or 12:00 to 3:00 pm.

Respond to letters written by prisoners requesting prayer, Bible studies, books, etc. from home.

Visit prisons around the world and bring the hope of Christ through an international trip with Prison Alliance.

Volunteering as a group for a serve day in the warehouse helping to stamp, pack, and ship books and Bibles to prisons.

Do a book donation drive to collect new or gently used books and Bibles, then drop them off or ship them to Prison Alliance so they can be distributed to incarcerated men and women.

Helping input forms into databases, envelope stuffing, opening and sorting mail, letter correspondence, general office administrative help. Can be done in person at the Raleigh office or remotely.

Are you driven to help fight against hunger? If so, volunteer as a Driver’s Assistant, where you will accompany one of our Food Shuttle drivers on a truck, recovering food from our partner agencies in our surrounding service counties, and helping in our warehouse.

Please arrive on time at our Durham Warehouse to begin your shift. Our address is 2436 S Miami Blvd, Durham, NC 27703, and the warehouse is in the back right corner of the parking lot. You will be greeted by a staff member in the office and brought to the warehouse when it is time to be paired with a driver.

Dress Code

You must wear CLOSED-TOE/HEEL SHOES. We recommend bringing gloves, water, and a snack or lunch. Volunteers may take a lunch break from 1 - 1:30 PM. There is NO smoking or vaping in the Food Shuttle vehicles.

It is important to be on time for your shift. If you are late, there is a strong chance that you will not be able to volunteer for this opportunity, as our drivers must stay on schedule for their pick-up and drop-off times. Drivers will not return to the Durham Warehouse until they are done with their route and will only return early for emergencies. When registering for a shift, please make sure you can be at the warehouse by 9 AM and expect to stay until at least 2:30 PM If you cannot commit to the entire shift, please do not sign up.

The Administrative Assistant supports Grace Resource Ministries with key administrative and coordination tasks. Responsibilities may include handling phone calls, managing emails, scheduling and organizing online meetings, maintaining records, and assisting with the planning and coordination of both online and community events.

Help Time-In Moms stay organized so that moms and volunteers have what they need. Responsibilities include: scheduling for volunteers and moms, light CRM support, and admin duties.

The Task/Duties:

Our Student Ambassadors are a critical link in helping our organization get PORCH neighborhoods started in their home or college towns. Their role is to help bring awareness of food insecurity to the local community, mobilize local food drives, and identify potential neighborhood coordinators to help create a sustainable hunger relief program. The program is open to all high school or college students who are passionate about fighting hunger.

PORCH provides students with the knowledge, tools, and support needed - from food insecurity education, to how-to playbooks, to marketing materials, to a program advisor - to help ensure success.

We provide moms with 90-minute “time-ins” designed to ease the demands of daily life. Through trusted volunteers, we offer three essential services: light cleaning, meal support, and child care. Moms can select the service that will help them most, and volunteers step in to provide it with reliability, care, and compassion—just like a trusted friend or family member would. By giving moms space to breathe and refocus, we help strengthen families and build a stronger, more connected community.

Little WORLD Charity is a ten year old, 100% volunteer small group with a huge impact in the North Carolina Triangle area. Our animated displays, year round in 21 children's hospitals, clinics, and libraries, create 500,000 smiles (button presses) a year to kids in need of some joy. 

We are also running a huge, free model train show in December, 2025 and we need lots of volunteers for various roles (no skill required). These range from some muscle to setting up and taking down the train tables, decorators for the layout areas, and people helping to run the various trains. All of this is fun, relaxed easy volunteering where you will see lots of smiling faces.

We are looking for personable and outgoing volunteers to help man our desk and greet visitors at the Hillsborough Visitor Center. Volunteers will come in weekly (or bi-weekly) for a 3 hour shift. We provide on-site training to teach you about our resources!

The Climate Impact on Lung Cancer via Exposure to Radon (CLOVER) Study is a statewide research project led by Duke University that examines how radon exposure and climate change impact lung cancer outcomes across North Carolina. The study includes two parts for participants: completing a brief survey and using a free radon test kit to measure radon levels in their home.

We are seeking volunteers from across the state to help connect community members with the CLOVER Study. Volunteers will play a vital role in sharing study information, encouraging participation, and helping distribute free radon test kits to residents.

What You’ll Do:

Share CLOVER Study materials in your community (flyers, brochures, or social media posts).

Connect with local organizations, churches, and community groups to spread awareness. Assist participants with completing the survey and radon test for full participation.

No research experience is needed—just an interest in public health and a willingness to engage your community. All training, materials, and ongoing support will be provided. By volunteering, you’ll help advance lung cancer prevention and environmental health research while protecting communities from harmful radon exposure.

A VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteer helps low- to moderate-income individuals and families—often including seniors, people with disabilities, and those with limited English proficiency—prepare and file their federal and state income tax returns for free.

Here’s a breakdown of role options:

1. Tax Preparation and Filing

Use IRS-provided software to prepare accurate returns.

Ensure all eligible credits and deductions (like Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit) are claimed.

E-file returns securely for clients.

2. Client Assistance and Education

Interview taxpayers to gather necessary information and documents.

Explain the return to the client in plain language before filing.

Answer basic tax questions and provide general financial literacy tips.

3. Compliance and Confidentiality

Follow IRS standards of conduct and maintain strict confidentiality with client information.

Complete required IRS training and certification each tax season.

4. Team Collaboration

Work with other volunteers, site coordinators, and quality reviewers to ensure returns are correct.

Refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.

5. Optional Specializations

Some VITA volunteers focus on appointment setting, intake, translation, greeter duties, or quality review instead of tax prep itself.

The Nonprofit Training Program Coordinator/Manager helps to leads the delivery of The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) training programs. This includes the ongoing monthly training programs as well as the Service Enterprise program and other training opportunities.

This opportunity is approximately 10-15 hours per week.  This position can be done in-office or remotely--though occasionally there may be a need for some meetings/project coordination to be in-person.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We need people, one or two days a year, to help rotate our displays across the Triangle.  You would drive to our director's home in North Durham and then spend several hours riding in his van, helping him remove and install display cases that the children love to activate with the press of a button.  Your volunteering, even for a day, helps our frugal charity save money in not having to pay a contractor to help us.   

Most of the time is spent being a passenger, just chatting.  The work is not overly strenuous does require the ability to lift around 30 pounds for about 10 seconds. And you'll get to see lots of children enjoying the displays.

Purpose: Guide and supervise students working in the wood shop and provide assistance on their projects. Model appropriate social behavior and shop safety.

Expectations and Responsibilities: Play an active role in the development of each student’s social and woodworking skills. Provide opportunities for the students to grow by doing things such as suggesting a new type of project to work on. Maintain a safe and clean environment in the shop. General tool maintenance as needed. Supply inventory as needed

Skills and Qualifications: Comfortable working with students in grades 3-12. Willing to, over time, become familiar with the many introductory projects we have our new students work on so that you may assist with all steps of production.

Requirements: Must be 21 years of age or older and consent to a background check.

Training: Complete training plan as outlined in the volunteer training checklist: Stop The Bleed, module training, orientation, and shadowing. Participate in mandatory ongoing training offered by the BCW. Participate in recommended ongoing training offered by the BCW as able.

Time Requirement: Two-hour blocks (4-6pm M-F; 1-3 M, T, Th), Preferably 1-3 days a week during our after school program, depending on availability.

Reporting Requirement: Regularly discuss ideas, suggestions, or concerns you have for the program.

The Bull City Woodshop is piloting a program where people from the community can come into the shop and use the tools and space for their personal projects. We are working to create staffed hours where open shop members can receive supervision and support while on the tools. The volunteer's responsibility for this time would be to: Be present at their open shop hours shift, be available to address general safety/usability concerns for open shop members, report any incidents or tool maintenance needs, and ensure that members have cleaned up before leaving the shop.

Expectations and Responsibilities: Set-up, tear-down and/or tend the BCW booth at assigned events. Accurately and enthusiastically communicate the work we do and explain how others may get involved. Transport supplies to and from the event as you're able. Shifts can include set-up, tend the booth (no physical labor required), or tear-down the supplies at each event.

Skills and Qualifications: Strong knowledge of the mission of the Bull City Woodshop, the work that we do, and an enthusiasm for communicating it to others.

Requirements: Familiarity with our program and services we provide. If helping with set-up and tear-down, ability to lift 20 lbs. Helpful, but not required is a vehicle to help transport supplies to events.

Training: Brief review of materials used including our information binder, table decorations, forms, and brochures. Review of shop tools and projects so that you may respond to questions. Understanding of possible hands-on activities the BCW provides at these events.

Time Requirement: 2-4 hours per event; 6-12 events per year depending on availability.

Reporting Requirement: Report to the Community Outreach Director about attendance of the event, success of the activity (if performed), and any improvements that could be made at the next event. Submit sign-up sheet to the Community Outreach Director.

Benefits:  Opportunity to share your story and experiences working at the Bull City Woodshop with members of the community and other local organizations.

Connecting with Threads is sponsoring a Learn to Sew series for youth at the Southwest Durham Library. We are looking for teaching assistants to help us. You should enjoy working with children but we can teach you all you need to know about sewing for this simple curriculum.

The series will be held on the following dates: 9/27, 10/25, 11/8, 11/29 and 12/6. The series will be offered again after the holidays as well.

All volunteers must have a background check.

Connecting with Threads will be teaching sewing lessons twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6pm) to youth grades K-5.  We are looking for volunteers to help us staff the program -- if you don't know how to sew, we will teach you what you need to know!

The projects we will be teaching are simple and the students will progress through the curriculum at their own pace with our support.  We will be teaching them both sewing by machine as well as hand sewing.

The students will be making projects for themselves to keep as well as items to be donated to their elementary school.

This program is part of a broader after school program providing underpriveledged youth access to additional educational opportunities aimed at improving their scholastic abilities.

We are looking for volunteers who want to learn to sew - or already have a love of sewing - who are also interested in giving back to their community by donating the items they make to people in the Triangle area.  Our diverse group is interested in learning, growing, helping others, and building friendships along the way. We make quilts, bags, fidget blankets, and much more that are then donated to those they would benefit. Our group provides education, sewing machines, and supplies for the items that are made.

These volunteers help us manage the Fresh Produce Program's distribution of free food items to members of the community who arrive at Uncle Harry's General Store (1925 Yearby Ave, Durham) during our Saturday distribution days as walk-ups. This includes 1) table set up, 2) management of our “take-a-number system” to facilitate food distribution on a first-come, first-served basis, 3) sharing handouts with local food bank information and information about the walk-up table process that folks may share with other members of the community, and 4) re-packing table contents for storage. Spanish proficiency is highly recommended.
