A Pocket Tree is similar in concept to an Angel Tree. The only difference is that donors are shopping for a typical child that we serve rather than a specific child. After signup, we will send you a printable sheet of pocket-shaped ornaments that list a specific clothing/shoe item.

Volunteer: PORCH Student Ambassadors - Cary, NCOur Student Ambassadors are a critical link in helping our organization get PORCH neighborhoods started in their home or college towns. Their role is to help bring awareness of food insecurity to the local community, mobilize local food drives, and identify potential neighborhood coordinators to help create a sustainable hunger relief program. The program is open to all high school or college students who are passionate about fighting hunger. PORCH provides students with the knowledge, tools, and support needed - from food insecurity education, to how-to playbooks, to marketing materials, to a program advisor - to help ensure success. Our animated displays, year round in 21 children's hospitals, clinics, and libraries, create 500,000 smiles (button presses) a year to kids in need of some joy. We are also running a huge, free model train show in December, 2025 and we need lots of volunteers for various roles (no skill required). These range from some muscle to setting up and taking down the train tables, decorators for the layout areas, and people helping to run the various trains. All of this is fun, relaxed easy volunteering where you will see lots of smiling faces. Due to the large number of dates and shifts and different locations, we've organized the signup method for you in the google sheet in the link below. Volunteer: Food Pantry VolunteersCovid-19 brought to light the heartbreaking extent of food insecurity in our community. Iglesia Emanuel, together with a large group of dedicated volunteers, has responded to this challenge with a weekly food pantry, providing large boxes and bags of nutritious and culturally appropriate food. Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, making it possible for us to serve over 600 families a week. Students aged 14 and up are welcome to volunteer on their own. Children aged 10 and up are welcome to volunteer under the supervision of a parent or other accompanying adult. Volunteers need to be over 18 for traffic control positions. In addition to volunteering on site, you can help support this ministry by donating shelf stable food or bags of rice and beans. We always need more protein items (canned chicken, tuna, or peanut butter), cereal, and other nutritious food to complement the fresh produce that we give.
