Thanks to our incredible community, we received an overwhelming response to our recent call for 2T–6X clothing donations. Now we need volunteer groups to help sort and bundle these items so they can quickly reach families with young children in Durham.

Volunteers are crucial to the operation of the Museum of Durham History as we provide programs and experiences to Durham residents and visitors. Our commitment to volunteers is to provide meaningful volunteer experience and effective direction in an environment that is friendly, comfortable, educational, and fun.

We are specifically looking for long-term volunteers who are able to help on-site twice per month on average. Available shifts include Tuesday through Friday, 10 am - 1 pm, 1-5 pm; Saturday 10am-1pm, 1pm-3pm, and 3pm-5pm; Sunday, 12-2:30 pm, 2:30-5 pm; monthly 3rd Friday 5pm-8pm.

Welcome Baby is seeking dedicated weekly volunteers who can offer 4–8 hours each week to help sort incoming donations. We take pride in providing families with high‑quality, gently used items, and volunteers play a key role in making that possible.

We’re looking for volunteers who are:

·         Organized, thorough, and effective communicators

·         Comfortable lifting bags/boxes up to 30 pounds

Student U, Durham's 11-year educational pipeline for first-generation public school students from 6th grade through college graduation, is celebrating 20 years of investing in students, families, and the Durham community. We want staff to put down their clipboards, grab a plate, and enjoy this milestone alongside the alumni and community members who made it possible. That's where you come in.

Volunteer Shifts

Setup Crew | 9:30 to 10:30am (about 10 volunteers): Be the first there and help transform the space, tables, chairs, tents, food stations, and everything that makes a party feel like a party. Bonus: first dibs on the best spots before the crowds arrive. Requires lifting and carrying tables, chairs, and equipment, plus extended time on your feet.

Party Day Crew | 11am to 2pm (about 10 volunteers): Keep the energy going! We need friendly faces to run check-in, manage the bounce houses, and keep food and drink stations stocked. If you love people and a good party, this one's for you. Requires standing for extended periods, with some light lifting.

Breakdown Crew | 2:00 to 3:00pm (about 10 volunteers): Help us close things out and leave the Pearson Center better than we found it. Many hands make light work, and there will likely be leftover food with your name on it.

WakeEd Partnership is seeking an organized, dependable, and community-minded volunteer to serve as a Tools4Schools Volunteer Operations Lead. Tools4Schools is WakeEd Partnership’s free teacher resource program serving Wake County Public School educators with classroom supplies, basic student needs items, and other essential resources that help teachers and students succeed. Since opening in 2022, Tools4Schools has served thousands of educators and distributed more than $2 million in new school supplies.

Position Overview

These volunteers support the Root Causes Fresh Produce Program by assisting our distribution leaders in packing produce and loading bags at Uncle Harry's General Store (1925 Yearby Ave, Durham) into drivers' cars on Saturday distribution days between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

These volunteers support the Root Causes Fresh Produce Program by picking up food bags from Uncle Harry's General Store (1925 Yearby Ave, Durham) at a time of their choosing on Saturdays between 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM, and delivering these items to patients' homes. 

Up to 2 hour commitment (e.g. someone who picks up at 9:00 AM should plan for finishing by 11:00 AM, a 10:45 AM pickup finishing by 12:45 PM at the latest). We routinely need 20-25 drivers since we serve ~150 households a week. The more people who sign up, the quicker the routes are for everyone!

These volunteers support the Root Causes Fresh Produce Program by calling and texting up to 8 participants between Tuesday and Thursday each week to confirm that they would like a fresh produce delivery. This role is a trained, semester/summer-long commitment that requires weekly action. You will have the assistance of a script to ask participants about the different programs we offer/they are eligible for. This role is KEY for making sure the right bags or produce get to the right people/addresses, and helping us stay in touch with our patients. Relationship building is encouraged!

This volunteer will support the Fresh Produce Program by being responsible for picking up compost at the end of Saturday's distribution (between 10-10:30am) and bringing it to the Duke Gardens. The commitment will be approximately 1 hour.

It is critical that the driver has a pickup truck/van/car that is large enough to fit the week's compost – approximately three 27-gallon bins and/or trash bags with additional compost. A tarp will be provided to keep your vehicle clean. A cart will be provided to assist with transporting the compost once at the gardens. The bins, tarp, and cart will then need to be returned to the General Store from pickup.

We highly encourage volunteers in this role to be physically able and/or to bring a friend along, as the compost bins can be heavy (~25-70 lbs each). The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center is seeking enthusiastic and dependable volunteers to support our Summer Leadership Programs for high school students.

Volunteers will assist with daily programming, mentor students, support nonprofit service projects, and help create a positive and engaging learning environment throughout the summer. This role is ideal for individuals interested in youth development, nonprofit leadership, education, civic engagement, or community service.

We strongly prefer volunteers who are available for an entire program week or multiple days throughout the summer to help provide consistency in planning and logistics.

Time-In Moms is seeking a reliable, tech-savvy volunteer to help support and maintain the software app we use to schedule services for moms and match volunteers to opportunities.

Able to Serve is seeking caring and dependable Van/Mini-Bus Drivers to support our Day Program serving adults with disabilities. Drivers transport participants to community outings, service projects, recreational activities, and special events throughout the month. This volunteer role is perfect for individuals who enjoy driving, engaging with others, and being part of meaningful experiences that help our participants grow and connect in the community.

The purpose of this role is to provide safe, reliable, and welcoming transportation so participants can actively engage beyond our walls. Transportation plays a key part in fostering independence, life skills development, and meaningful service opportunities. By helping participants get where they need to go, drivers directly support our mission of empowering every individual to live a full and purposeful life.

Safety is the highest priority in this role. Drivers are responsible for operating an Able to Serve van or mini-bus in a safe, attentive, and responsible manner at all times. This includes following all traffic laws, ensuring proper seatbelt use, assisting with safe loading and unloading, and maintaining awareness of participants’ needs throughout the trip.

No CDL is required. However, all drivers must complete a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, background check, and required volunteer training prior to serving. Driving opportunities occur each month, and volunteers can sign up for specific dates and trips that fit their availability. In addition to driving, volunteers may assist staff by supporting participants during outings as needed — offering a helping hand, providing encouragement, and helping ensure a smooth and positive experience for everyone involved.

Instructors will teach 2nd grade Durham School students basic water safety and swimming skills. Each 2nd grade student has 8 lessons over a 2-week period. Instructors are given a detailed handbook and go through a training session. Laminated teaching aids are available poolside during the lessons. Instructor requirements are the ability to do a front to back float, a basic (elementary) backstroke, front crawl (freestyle) stroke, and tread water. Instructors should have a desire to teach elementary school children, be patient and kind. Instructors will need to complete a free online Durham Public Schools background check. This is a very rewarding experience for both the 2nd grade students and the instructors.

We are seeking volunteers for our 3rd Annual September 28, 2026, Healing Pines Respite Golf Classic Event. We are creating our 2026 Event Planning Team. This includes various people and positions on this team, including a committee lead person.  We welcome the following skills - project managment, fundraising support (items for silent auction, assisting with business sponsorships), assisting with Qgiv golf registration system, marketing outreach, news outlets, press releases. No golf experience needed!

The Administrative Assistant supports Grace Resource Ministries with key administrative and coordination tasks. Responsibilities may include handling phone calls, managing emails, scheduling and organizing online meetings, maintaining records, and assisting with the planning and coordination of both online and community events.
