Since September 2025, Time-In Moms has supported nearly 60 families in the Raleigh-Durham Triangle by providing free, hands-on care such as meal prep, child care support, and light cleaning, helping reduce stress and strengthen family well-being.

Volunteers work in small teams to support a foster mom in her home by helping with child care, meal prep, and light cleaning, providing practical support and relief during a busy season.

Families Moving Forward is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Study Buddy tutoring program. Each week, Monday-Thursday from 5:00pm until 6:00pm we provide an hour of one-on-one academic support for the school-aged children in shelter at FMF. Volunteers are asked to help with reading, writing, mathmatics and other skills to help our kiddos maintain their grades and build acdemic confidence!

Families Moving Forward is seeking an individual volunteer to help run the Kidz Store every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 4:00-5:00pm. The Kidz Store is a collection of donated toys that our kids can purchase using the "decision dollars" they earn from attending programming. The shopkeeper is responsible for welcoming the kids, completing transactions and upholding the integrity of the store by maintaining the fixed prices and store hours. This is a great way to meet and interact with the kids from FMF and help spread some joy!

As a Durham Community Food Pantry volunteer, you are part of a collaborative effort to end food insecurity in Durham and Orange counties. Roles vary day-by-day, as described below:

Monday: Building non-perishable boxes of food for distribution [standing, lifting is optional]

Tuesday: Sorting produce, food drive materials, deli, dessert, break, and other items for distribution [standing, sorting]

Wednesday/Thursday: Servicing clients with food distribution: car loader, runner, warehouse organization [walking, light lifting, car loading involves 15lbs lifting'

Wednesday: Sorting boxes, recycling, warehouse cleanup and produce box-making [standing]

The Treasurer is a key officer of the Board of the Merrick-Moore Community Development Corporation, entrusted with the organization's financial stewardship. This individual is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability. The Treasurer operates in strict compliance with North Carolina (NC) state and federal regulations, safeguarding the fiscal health and integrity of the Merrick-Moore Community Development Corporation.

Skills and Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, and reporting, preferably in a nonprofit or public sector setting.
• Knowledge of NC state laws and federal guidelines governing nonprofits.

These volunteers should feel comfortable tapping into their playful and creative side. The children come to our program right after school, so it’s important that the sessions do not feel like more classroom time. Presenters should design activities that are fun, expressive, relatable, and relevant to what the children are experiencing in their lives, especially as many of them are navigating the challenges of transitional housing.

The goal is to create a safe and inspiring space where children can open up, connect with one another, and explore new ideas and skills that help them imagine possibilities beyond their current circumstances. I am absolutely happy to support volunteers as they get comfortable, but it is important that they bring enthusiasm, creativity, and a genuine willingness to engage with the youth.

Volunteers may participate every Thursday or twice a month based on their schedule, and can work with the 6–12 group, the 13–18 group, or both.

We are looking for volunteer tutors who can support our children and teens (ages 6–18) in subjects like math, reading, and general homework help. Tutors will be placed on a list and may be scheduled 1–2 times per week based on the needs of our program families.

Tutoring sessions will take place in public locations such as the library or Barnes & Noble, where families can comfortably meet. A background check will be required to ensure the safety of our youth and families.

These volunteers support the Fresh Produce Program by calling and texting between 5-10 participants between Monday and Wednesday each week to confirm their upcoming Saturday deliveries. An email with instructions is sent to all volunteers at the beginning of each week. Volunteers have the assistance of a script and FAQ document to successfully complete calls. This role is KEY for making sure deliveries get to the right people/places, and helping us stay in touch with the households we serve. Relationship building is encouraged!

We ask that volunteers sign up for one semester or summer of delivery confirmation calling at a time. It is not required that callers sign up to volunteer as a Delivery Confirmation Caller every week during that period, but at least once every 2-3 weeks is encouraged.

IMPORTANT: We manage volunteer sign-ups outside of HandsOn Triangle.  If you would like to sign up to be a Delivery Confirmation Caller, and are prepared to do so for a full semester or summer, please email Elliot at elliot.yoon@duke.edu. One-hour caller training, as well as a short online HIPAA training, is required.

These volunteers will pick up produce bags from Uncle Harry's General Store (1925 Yearby Ave, Durham, NC 27705) on Saturdays between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM at their chosen time and deliver these items to participant homes. Driving may be up to a 2-hour commitment (eg, someone who picks up at 10:00 AM should plan to finish by 12:00 PM at the latest).

We routinely need 15-20 drivers to serve ~175 households each week. In order for us to generate driving routes based on an accurate headcount of drivers for the week, we ask that you sign up no later than 5 PM the day before distribution. Once routes are generated, an email with instructions will be sent to all volunteers within a few hours of their pick-up time. The more people who sign up, the quicker the routes are for everyone! We encourage you to bring along a friend for this role! Driving is much more fun with a buddy, who can help call participants to let them know that their delivery is on the way. HIPAA training required! Please see the google sheet below for more information on HIPPA.

These volunteers support the Fresh Produce Program by assisting our distribution leaders with quality-controlling produce items, packing produce into bags, and loading bags into delivery drivers' cars on Saturday distribution days between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

These volunteers will coordinate with our non-Spanish-speaking drivers on Saturday distribution days by making calls to our Spanish-speaking participants to let them know that their produce delivery is on the way. Because many of the families we serve primarily speak Spanish, these volunteers are CRUCIAL to help us receive any special instructions or requests from participants. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for multiple time slots/days!

We are looking for volunteers who want to learn to sew - or already have a love of sewing - who are also interested in giving back to their community by donating the items they make to people in the Triangle area.  Our diverse group is interested in learning, growing, helping others, and building friendships along the way. We make quilts, bags, fidget blankets, and much more that are then donated to those they would benefit. Our group provides education, sewing machines, and supplies for the items that are made.

Connecting with Threads will be teaching sewing lessons twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:45-2:15pm) to 5th grade youth.  We are looking for volunteers to help us staff the program -- if you don't know how to sew, we will teach you what you need to know!

The projects we will be teaching are simple and the students will progress through the curriculum at their own pace with our support.  We will be teaching them both sewing by machine as well as hand sewing.

The students will be making projects for themselves to keep as well as items to be donated to their elementary school.

Connecting with Threads is sponsoring a Learn to Sew series for youth at the Southwest Durham Library. We are looking for teaching assistants to help us. You should enjoy working with children but we can teach you all you need to know about sewing for this simple curriculum.

The series will be held on the following dates: 12/6/25, 1/10/26, 1/24/26, 2/7/26, 2/21/26, 3/7/26, 3/21/26.  All sessions are from 10-12pm except for 1/24/26, 2/7/26, and 2/21/26 which will run from 2-3pm.     

All volunteers must have a background check.

Do you love dogs?  Make a dog’s day with a fun field trip away from the Adoption Center! By taking a dog out of the Adoption Center for just a few hours, you’ll provide them mental stimulation from new experiences and meeting new people as well as help them exert pent up energy. Another added bonus is that people who wouldn’t normally come down to the adoption center may meet their new furry friend through this program! Love to drive and want to help animals? We’re looking for volunteers to transport dogs and cats to vet appointments, pick up animals from shelters or fosters, and collect donated supplies or medications. Are you an animal lover? We need volunteers to assist staff with keeping the facility clean and ensuring the animals have the care they need. Typical tasks include cleaning (e.g. sweeping, mopping, cleaning litter boxes, cleaning cat rooms, dishes, laundry) and making cat enrichments.

Covid-19 brought to light the heartbreaking extent of food insecurity in our community. Iglesia Emanuel, together with a large group of dedicated volunteers, has responded to this challenge with a weekly food pantry, providing large boxes and bags of nutritious and culturally appropriate food. Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, making it possible for us to serve over 600 families a week. Students aged 14 and up are welcome to volunteer on their own. Children aged 10 and up are welcome to volunteer under the supervision of a parent or other accompanying adult. Volunteers need to be over 18 for traffic control positions.

In addition to volunteering on site, you can help support this ministry by donating shelf stable food or bags of rice and beans. We always need more protein items (canned chicken, tuna, or peanut butter), cereal, and other nutritious food to complement the fresh produce that we give.

Bull City Woodshop (BCW) is a youth-centered nonprofit that guides individual development, fosters community connection, and cultivates creativity through woodworking. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a committed and financially savvy individual to serve as our Treasurer on the Board of Directors.

Looking for a low-pressure, come-as-you-are way to make a real difference in the Coats community? Coats Municipal Park could use a little extra love, and Campbell students are invited to help keep our green spaces clean and welcoming for everyone.
This is a flexible, self-led volunteer opportunity with no set schedule, no sign-ups, no formal event. If you find yourself with a free hour between classes or want a quick way to give back, simply stop by the park at any time that works for you. Bring a friend or fly solo, take a walk, and help pick up litter along the pathways, fields, and play areas. Every small effort adds up, and your time directly supports a cleaner, safer space for families, pets, and visitors.
Gloves and trash bags are encouraged; filled bags can be placed next to any park trash can for staff to remove. Whether you swing by once or make it part of your weekly routine, your help strengthens the community in a big way.

Cleaning the Stores + Tidying The Yard

Take our handy dandy cleaning cart and make the stores sparkle! This cart comes with a checklist that includes all the possible cleaning tasks for each store along with a duster, wet wipes, and several cleaning products. Great for folks who like a clean space and have attention to detail! This shift also includes picking up trash from the yard and lot, tidying the front bed and entrance area, and making sure we look good on the outside as well as the inside!

Clothes + Accessories Processing

This shift involves fixing clothes around the store, collecting hangers, tidying the floor, and processing clothes and accessories donations.

Frames + Housewares Processing

This shift involves processing our picture frames and housewares in our Thrift Store. Housewares includes kitchen items, decor, linens, and more.


We offer several types of volunteer opportunities at our Reuse Arts Center:

Bag + Box Processing 

For detail-oriented folks who love sorting, organizing, and supporting some of the grittier aspects of our mission of reuse! This shift involves sorting through bags we have accumulated over the week, and separating them into different usable and unusable categories. Additionally, you will break down cardboard boxes for recycling.

Craft + Art Processing

For all of our crafty crafters! This involves packaging crafting material, testing supplies, sorting items, and tidying the sales floor.

Fabric + Upholstery Processing

For fabulous fabric fans! This includes cutting, measuring, and rolling fabric. From upholstery to quilting to apparel fabric, help us get it ready to put on the floor to sell.

Paper + Office Processing

This is a great opportunity for anyone with a real passion for ~school and office supplies~! Extra points if you have some skills and knowledge around paper and scrapbooking and of course like to tidy. This involves organizing binders, sorting paper and other items, and placing and pricing supplies.

Scrap + Barrel Item Processing (Wednesday + Friday PM only)

This shift involves sorting the barrel items and preloved materials we receive in bulk, such as pill bottles, medals, egg cartons, and more. This shift involves blue barrel section maintenance, packaging bulk items, and sorting items by color and size.

Tile, Wood, + Hardware Processing

This shift involves processing our hardware donations such as tools, paint, nails and screws, garden items, and more. It also involves culling and organizing our tile and wood section.

Toy + Costume Processing

This shift involves tidying our toy department, cleaning our toy trough, hanging costumes, and sorting costume accessories.

Yarn + Notions Processing

This involves bagging elastic, wrapping seam binding, pairing knitting needles, and packaging shoelaces.

For detail-oriented folks who love sorting, organizing, and supporting some of the grittier aspects of our mission of reuse! This shift involves sorting through bags we have accumulated over the week, and separating them into different usable and unusable categories. Additionally, you will break down cardboard boxes for recycling.

Time-In Moms is a growing nonprofit serving moms in the Triangle by providing essential support—light cleaning, child care support, and meal support—so families can breathe, reset, and thrive. We launched in August 2025 and operate primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. Every act of service strengthens families, supports kids, and helps our community flourish.

We are seeking a Volunteer Event Planner to help bring our mission to life through meaningful, organized, and community-building events. This role will support both service day events for moms and community engagement events that help us recruit volunteers, raise awareness, and strengthen partnerships.

Assist with organizing fundraising events, and service day events 

Communicate with volunteers, moms, and partners to ensure smooth logistics

Create simple run-of-show schedules and checklists for each event

Manage event timelines, locations, and supplies

Ensure events reflect the warmth, empathy, and excellence of Time-In Moms

We are seeking a volunteer for social media posts created in canva to promote our mission supporting women with cancer.  Ideally, this would include 1-2 posts a week highlighting our mission. 

The Nonprofit Training Program Coordinator/Manager helps to leads the delivery of The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) training programs. This includes the ongoing monthly training programs as well as the Service Enterprise program and other training opportunities.

The DWC has a website built on the WIX format. It was created by a member with little experience. We need someone experienced in website design that could look it over, fix any problems and make recommendations on improvements. What can be done that the website comes up in Google searches more readily? How can we promote ourselves better - at little cost?

DCRC is seeking thoughtful and empowering volunteers to join our team providing services to victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking who come to the office for legal or crisis services. This volunteer is the "Director of First Impressions" and welcomes survivors in, creating a sense of safety and peace when they come through the door or call the administrative line. Volunteers will also help in the office complete light administrative duties such as: Organizing supplies, creating volunteer notebooks, creating folders, etc.

You will receive 10 hours of training prior to starting independent shifts. No volunteer is put to work until they are confident and comfortable.

Our kitchen volunteers wipe down countertops, tables, organize supplies, put out snacks, and keep our kitchens neat and tidy for the guests that come to our facility. Shifts can vary according to the volunteer's schedule.

Our pantry volunteers take our food donations and organize them by expiration date in our pantry. They keep the pantry neat and organized so that our guests can find everything they need. Our pantry volunteers also put out 'grab and go" snacks for our guests so they can enjoy a treat as they return from the hospital.

Get a group of friends together to assemble Grab and Go Bags for our guests living at Family House.  You can customize the bags with fun messages and include your favorite non-perishable snacks, beverages and/or game books.  All of these items ease the burden of a patient or family member spending hours at UNC hospitals and can save them money since food items can be expensive at the hospital.  

You can drop these items off at Family House at any time of the day.  Our team will distribute them to guests and make sure our guests are well taken care of.

Join us as a Front Desk Volunteer at SECU Family House in Chapel Hill.  We are seeking individuals with moderate computer skills and excellent phone etiquette to serve as the welcome face of our house.  Candidates must commit to at least six months of once-a-week volunteering (a 2-3 hours shift), either on weekday evenings from 6-8pm or on weekends.  Don't worry if you are new to this role, training will be provided to make sure you feel comfortable.  Join the front desk team; the most popular volunteer opportunity in the house:).  Great swag, snacks and friendships included!!

Join Welcome Baby and share gifts of warmth with Durham families. Welcome Baby is seeking a regular volunteer to assist with our Winter Coat Distribution. Volunteers will assist in pulling coats of appropriate size, gender and restocking as needed.

Feeling brave? Volunteer at the Museum of Life and Science for our BooFest Event! Help Museum staff run monstrous science explorations, creepy crafts, themed enrichment, and encounters. This included-with-admission event runs on October 25, 26, and 31, with shifts from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm or 12:00 to 3:00 pm.

Duties include stamping, packing, and shipping books and Bibles to prisons.

Review completed bible study lessons from prisoners by adding encouragement and scripture.

Respond to letters written by prisoners requesting prayer, Bible studies, books, etc. from home.

Visit prisons around the world and bring the hope of Christ through an international trip with Prison Alliance.

Volunteering as a group for a serve day in the warehouse helping to stamp, pack, and ship books and Bibles to prisons.

Do a book donation drive to collect new or gently used books and Bibles, then drop them off or ship them to Prison Alliance so they can be distributed to incarcerated men and women.

Helping input forms into databases, envelope stuffing, opening and sorting mail, letter correspondence, general office administrative help. Can be done in person at the Raleigh office or remotely.

Our Student Ambassadors are a critical link in helping our organization get PORCH neighborhoods started in their home or college towns. Their role is to help bring awareness of food insecurity to the local community, mobilize local food drives, and identify potential neighborhood coordinators to help create a sustainable hunger relief program. The program is open to all high school or college students who are passionate about fighting hunger.

PORCH provides students with the knowledge, tools, and support needed - from food insecurity education, to how-to playbooks, to marketing materials, to a program advisor - to help ensure success.
