Who We Are
The CRC is a community mediation center serving Durham County. Services include mediation, facilitation, and training.
Our mission is to provide the community a different way to experience conflict and find common ground through communication, cooperation, and understanding. We serve Durham with the help of our volunteer partners that serve as mediators and facilitators in our various programs.
What We Do
Our programs include:
Durham People' s Court where we help citizens that have filed complaints with the court through the mediation process. Mediation allows the parties to craft their own solution and reduces the pipeline to prison.
School-Based Truancy Court (Reducing truancy)
Truancy Court brings together the people who can best make a difference in the child’s education—the parent, student, administrator, school counselor and social worker (with input from the teacher). We manage the program in 49 schools and provide the (volunteers) judges, whose job is to guide/challenge this group to address the barriers to the child attending school.
Training
- Mediator Training (24-hour course)
- Conflict Management
- Peer Mediation for Youth
- Restorative Justice Practice
