Chatham Education Foundation (CEF)'s new literacy program SOAR, is looking to train and connect volunteers to Chatham County Elementary Students. A small investment – 45 minutes, twice a week after-school - will yield great results in the life of a child. Learn about our specialized 1:1 literacy tutoring and how you can tutor students not meeting the NC literacy benchmarks. NO EXPERIENCE NECCESSARY - We will train you at our expense using the Augustine Literacy Project, a proven tutorial program . SOAR Literacy Program/Augustine tutors serve low-income students whose primary deficit is decoding and/or encoding. We also support fluency and comprehension. We use the research-based Orton-Gillingham approach to phonics instruction. This method is highly structured, multisensory, sequential, and cumulative. We currently serve 1st graders at North Chatham Elementary School in Chapel Hill and 2nd graders at Virginia Cross Elementary in Siler City.
