Who We Are
OUR MISSION
Families Moving Forward offers a temporary home to families with children in the crisis of homelessness. Working together, we create a path to stability and self-sufficiency through personalized services and ongoing community support.
OUR VISION
Every family thriving in a permanent, stable home.
What We Do
Families Moving Forward is a result of a merger between Genesis Home and Durham Interfaith Hospitality Network in 2016. Every family deserves a home and too many people in Durham and surrounding counties wonder - - where will my family sleep tonight. Families Moving Forward is determined to family homelessness by coordinating services with other agencies and non-profits, reducing shelter stays and increasing services to families after they leave temporary, emergency housing. We currently provide emergency shelter and supportive services to 20 families at our facility at a time. Our case management staff meets with every family to set family goals that address educational, vocational, health and emotional needs. Referrals are made to partner agencies if a family needs additional services. We offer programming each weeknight and work with volunteers in our community to provide engaging activities on the weekends. When families move out we support them for an additional 12 months through our aftercare program called Branching Out.
