Join us as a volunteer for the kick off of Bike Month and the celebration of our 10 year Anniversary. Come help guests enjoy refreshments, win a prize, get a bike check-up, take a spin on an eBike from eBike Central, meet our friends at local Bike Shops and our partners like the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Commission, the City Department of Transportation and and the County’s Department of Health, Durham Parks and Rec, Go Triangle and more.  Here is the guest registration link.

The Biking Durham hiStories Ride leaves from the Museum at 2pm! Historian, Ernie Dollar will lead this 8 mile ride around downtown, slow and fun, family friendly with stops along the way to learn about some of Durham's more storied and intriguing sites! Complete the Bike Ride Waiver Here.

We do not need ride leaders or sweeps for the ride but are always looking for new folks to join the ride planning and implementation team.

Here are the various roles needed:  more information will be provided for each role when you confirm your interest.

Bike Valet - like a coat check for bikes - park bike on racks, give guest ticket stub, retrieve bike for guest when they are ready to leave

Raffle Assistant drawing and announcing prize recipients, encouraging guests to sign up for bike durham emails and newsletter to be entered to win

Bike Durham Information Table  - encouraging folks to learn more about Bike Durham, our mission, vision and how we accomplish our work through events, advocacy and education.  Encourage guests to sign up for Bike Durham email and newsletter and be entered into a drawing for prizes.

Bike Durham information Table - Swag -Bike Durham is dedicated to providing our community with important information. Free bike safety gear (bike lights, etc.) will be available to encourage pedestrian safety in the community.  This is also an opportunity to encourage guests to sign up for our emails and newsletters.

Photographer - Record interactions between volunteers, guests, and organizations for future reference, documenting the event’s memorable moments and encourage guests of the event to view, share photos on social media to spread awareness 

Social Media assistant - work with staff to capture photos and videos and help post during the festival from set up to clean up

Set Up  - This position involves a little elbow grease, including: unloading boxes of items for the event, setting up folding tables and canopy tents for various activity stations, outlining a bike safety course, unpacking boxes with swag/merch, plates/cups, etc. 

 

 

Traffic Assistance - You will help direct any cars to parking areas and also direct bikes to the bike valet area

Food and Snacks you will be handing out packaged food.  The food will be donated from the Food Co Op -this is important information to share.

Cake server - You will be helping to cut and serve cake to guests to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Bike Durham.

Beverage Server - for the most part you will be serving both non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages.  You will need to track the number of alcoholic beverages served to a guest and will need to ask for ID

Event Flow Monitor - This position involves monitoring the event and directing people to the booths of our sponsors, partners and activities.

Clean Up - This position involves a little elbow grease, including: loading boxes of items from the event, cleaning and packing folding tables and canopy tents from various activity stations, packing boxes with swag/merch, loading vendor cars, and some trash pick up of plates/cups, making sure litter is disposed of, etc.

Please know that there will be public bathrooms, we will provide water and rain ponchos in case of rain.  You are welcome to wear a mask or not but guests will not be required to do so.  We will have hand sanitizer available.  Safety vests will be provided for some roles.  Snacks are available to you and the guests, most will be free.
