We are seeking career coaches to work with clients in our Durham boutique on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Career coaches work one-on-one with women to help with resumes, skill identification, interviewing, elevator speeches and other job seeking skills as needed.

A career coach commits to a regular schedule of volunteering once a month, twice a month, or once a week from 10-1 or 1-4 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. She meets with the women we serve to assist them in packaging and presenting their skills, abilities, and qualifications for employment opportunities that they identify in their job search. This involves partnering with the client in a personalized manner to determine immediate needs for skill identification, resume, job search and interviewing skills. The career coach is not responsible for helping the client find and secure employment. She must take responsibility for her job search.
The coach must have knowledge of job seeking skills and the ability to work with a variety of clients. Basic computer skills are also required.
A career coach when meeting with a client will:
• Assess the client’s job search status and current needs.
• Provide encouragement, feedback, praise and support and in general work to boost her self-confidence.
• Work with client to identify her skills.
• Using career center tools and resources as needed, assist the client in creating/revising job search documents that could include resume, elevator speech, cover letter, references, and sample job application (to be used in completing paper or electronic job applications).
• Describe all Dress for Success programs to client, encouraging her to inform us when she attains employment so she can participate in monthly meetings and receive her employment suiting.
Every career coach must attend a volunteer training session, followed by three "shadowing" sessions where you are paired with an experienced coach to work with clients for that shift. You will work with our boutique managers to determine a schedule that works for you.
