Book Harvest needs your help with a BIG celebration!

On Saturday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Book Harvest will join Durham County Library and libraries from across the country in celebrating Día. Día is a multicultural celebration of children, families, and reading, and emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Founded by children’s book author Pat Mora as El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), Día has encouraged the celebration of children and books for more than 20 years.

This will be our second year partnering with Durham County Library to bring Día to Northgate Mall in Durham. Last year's event drew over 600 people to enjoy the performances and activities -- as well as a giant book giveaway, of course -- and we expect this year's event to be even bigger! Last year, Book Harvest volunteers helped children and families select over 3,000 free books, and we need your help to do the same this year.

Sign ups for volunteers are first come first served, and youth volunteers are welcome (volunteers age 16 or younger must be accompanied by an adult throughout their entire shift). 9:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. -- set up and give away books
12 noon - 3:00 p.m. -- give away books and clean up
10:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m. -- staff registration and/or information table
12:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. -- staff registration and/or information table
